Rubicon Red to speak at 2012 Integrated Planning & Optimisation Summit

The 2012 Integrated Planning & Optimisation Summit (IPOS’12) is the premier event on the emerging topic of enterprise-wide decision support, and will attract some 300 delegates from various business sectors. Using SOA to accelerate Integration

In the past most organizations have used point-to-point integration to wire together ‘siloed’ applications. Yet, key business processes cut across multiple “siloed” applications. Overtime, organizations end up with a tangled web (often referred to as integration spaghetti) of inter-dependency between systems. As this set of inter-dependencies grows, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain and change, not just the connections but the underlying systems, which can significantly impede an organizations ability to execute.

Service oriented architecture (SOA) has evolved to address these issues. With SOA, software applications are built as a set of modular, loosely coupled components, exposed as Web services. As such, we will only think of services and how those services (provided by multiple applications) can be assembled to build complete “composite” applications that can be quickly and easily modified to adapt to a continually evolving business environment.

A foundation for Process Automation

Using SOA to implement your integration capabilities, you will have the additional benefit of orchestrating and automating the steps of your supply chain into a seamless business process. This reduces your need to further customize existing applications, usually in ways that impact your ability to upgrade them or find skills to manage or support them.

Your new found capabilities will allow you to include decision support system tasks across a wide range of business processes. E.g if you have a Management of Change process that requires impact analysis on ‘what if’ scenarios, and your optimization engine is capable of providing these –your new SOA capability can easily take advantage of this.

Corrective Services New South Wales provides correctional services to reduce re-offending and enhance community safety.

Rubicon Red worked with Corrective Services to implement a Business Process Management solution to deploy and manage transparent processes around incident management that span multiple departments and systems, to ensure staff know what to do when a critical incident occurs and managers are kept updated on what is being done.

The solution leveraged Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Business Process Analysis Suite and Oracle WebLogic Suite.

Matt Wright talks about Process Collaboration using Oracle BPM Suite

Traditionally Business Process Management (BPM) software has been about automating office and departmental workflows. However in today’s business environment, processes are more complex in nature, often crossing organizational and geographical boundaries, and requiring a high degree of collaboration between participants.

Matt Wright, was recently interviewed by the Oracle Media Network, where he discusses how the Oracle BPM Suite delivers a broad solution enabling collaboration between users, across processes spanning email, social networking and collaborative process portals. Click here to watch the interview.

Rubicon Red wins an Oracle Oscar

I recently attended an Oracle Customer event in Adelaide looking back at Oracle Open World 2010 and revisiting some of the more valuable experiences. Apart from being an excellent opportunity to understand what customers thought of the event, we were also very excited to receive our first Oracle Fusion Middleware Innovation Award alongside our customer Premium Wine Brands (a.k.a. Pernod Ricard Pacific).

It was a real honor to be nominated with Premium Wine Brands in the Oracle Fusion Middleware with Applications category. It was a partner/customer combination for using Oracle's middleware products with packaged apps to extend the business value of those applications. Winning the award is validation from Oracle and their judges that the journey we’ve undertaken with Pernod Ricard is innovative and is making a real difference.

A special thank you to Ryan, Steve and the team at PWB who have the vision and understanding of the value that SOA brings to an organization. We are looking forward to many more successes to come.

Franco Ucci, who leads the Oracle Fusion Middleware Sales Consulting team in ANZ was at the event to share his experiences too. Franco identified three key messages from the event which seemed to focus quite a bit on Middleware.

Franco's key takeaways were:

Exalogic - Oracle's follow up to the hugely successful Exadata appliances. These boxes are all about getting faster time to market of your infrastructure. There is no doubt customers are seeing the value in getting up and running out of the box (literally).
BPM 11gR1 - Our favorite topic. Franco reinforced the message of closing the Business/IT gap by providing more business centric tools in the middleware platform. He highlighted a number of key use cases, specifically around Collaboration within the organization
Fusion Applications - how the next generation of Applications from Oracle is building from the middle up... as opposed to most legacy applications which either built from the database up or from the UI down.
Data Integration - specifically Golden Gate technology working together with ODI to create a single platform for Data Transformation and Movement.

It was an excellent event with a lot of involvement from Oracle's customers.
